Panhandle Chamber of Commerce Sponsors Legislative Luncheon
On October 15, the Panhandle Chamber of Commerce held a Legislative Luncheon at the Whitefish Lake Golf Club.
Representative Judy Emmons and Senator Alan Cropsey were in attendance with many of our local chamber members and county commissioners.
The some topics of discussion were the current conditions with the state budget, the state of negotiations between the two parties and prospects for the future. There were also several questions regarding the new Small business tax structure and its effects on small businesses. Senator Cropsey said that many small businesses are finding the new tax to be a larger burden that the architects thought it would be. He felt there would be some future adjustments to the new tax.

HOWARD CITY, MICH. — The 10th annual Panhandle Community Expo drew over 440 visitors and 50 local businesses, marking the largest participation in the history of the Expo.
The evening included an Arbor Day celebration, a guest appearance by Full Boar Monster Tuck, music from Getting’ Picky and the Edgerton Bell Choir, a dance performance by Mystic Movement and a Cub Scout Pinewood Derby race. Local Fire, Police and EMS departments were also on hand to showcase the rescue vehicles.
“This was a great opportunity to get to know what the area has to offer,” noted Mark Rambo, Howard City Manager “it is very reassuring to see this level of participation from the local businesses and community members.”
Barb Kain and Missy Stebbins of First Bank spearheaded the event planning with assistance from several Chamber members.
“We are all very satisfied with what Barb and Missy have done with the Expo,” said Rambo “their effort and dedication have made the event a success.”
The 50 local businesses were able to showcase and sell their goods and services at the April 28th event hosted by the Panhandle Chamber of Commerce.
“I am really glad that we participated,” said Jeff Alexander, owner of Alexander Mechanical “we have made a lot of good contacts and it was nice to see such a large turnout.”
